As the state historian, Wheeler oversees the state’s most treasured artifacts and documents related to the 16th president and the first two centuries of Illinois history. He specializes in the history of the Prairie State, the Civil War Era, and the life and legacy of Abraham Lincoln.

He will address the state’s rich tradition of effective leadership, which often has been elevated to the national level. He will explore the qualities that define statesmanship and provide examples of Illinois politicians who have achieved such status. He will point to possible reasons why Illinois has served as an effective training ground for national leadership.

Earlier in the day, Wheeler will be visiting students in the History of Illinois class at ÁùºÏ²Ê¿â in Romeoville.
